Slovenian Interior Ministry Chooses Airbus Tetra for Secure Nationwide Communications

Slovenian Ministry of Interior - contract signing - Tetra system for nationwide secure communications

Ljubljana, 1st of February 2021 – The Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Slovenia has selected the Airbus consortium, composed of Airbus, Telekom Slovenije, Slovenian provider of the most advanced telecommunication solutions, and Iskratel, ICT provider for the digital transformation of telecommunications for industries, for the deployment of a Tetra digital radio infrastructure and its maintenance for the Slovenian State Authorities and Police Forces.

The Slovenian State police, Airbus Tetra terminal user since 2005, will benefit from a state-of-the-art mission-critical system in replacement of the current Tetra system installed in 2004. As part of the contract, Airbus will also ensure the maintenance of the Tetra digital radio infrastructure over an eight-year period.

On top of providing secure and reliable Tetra technology, Airbus will also provide multiple TB3s and TB3hp base stations, a geo-redundant Tetra Taira server, an RCS 9500 dispatching system, a radio gateway to interface other mission critical systems, a Viewcor network analyzer to monitor the network and coverage in real-time, Tactilon Management tools, and a TH1n. In addition to this, Airbus will be in charge of customer training and other professional services.

Airbus’ Tactilon Agnet will also be part of the implementation. The solution will allow the smooth integration of broadband services and high-technology and secure communication possibilities.

“The new system will provide a wider coverage of the country by reaching 90% of the territory from the 60% covered by the previous one. This will equip our Police Forces with important and adequate communication means. The new system will also bring a consistent costs reduction compared to the past” explained the Minister of the Interior Mr. Aleš Hojs

“The work of the police is related to solving various security risks, it is important that we respond quickly but thoughtfully” explained Mr. Andrej Jurič, Director of the Police. “However, this is only possible if we have a fast and properly protected transfer of information, which also enables precise coordination of work and liaison with other state bodies when necessary. The key is reliable communication, which must not fail in critical moments. Now we will finally be able to build a completely new Tetra network, with which the Police will acquire the state of the art technology" He added.

The delivery of the equipment and technology started in January 2021. Once deployed, the new system will cover almost 11.000 users as part of a wider plan to achieve nationwide coverage spanning a surface area of approximately 20.200 square kilometers of territory.
