Elancourt, 21 September 2017 - Airbus Tetra technology is integral part of the next generation electronic verification system to transmit data and information of vessel locations off the coast. Airbus provides its latest Tetra modem “TW1m” to the telecom company Atlas in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). It will be used to integrate confidential data, such as GPS positioning and text messages into the Atlas vessel identification system which is run by a government agency.

“We convinced our partner Atlas with the Tetra modem’s permanent availability and outstanding security features. Our components meet all the essential specifications set by the UAE government institutions”, says Selim Bouri, Head of Middle East for Secure Land Communications at Airbus. He points out that the markets in the Middle East are increasingly pathbreaking for the entire Professional Mobile Radio industry worldwide. The region is at the forefront of the Professional Mobile Radio development and Airbus applies its leading hybrid technology, combining Tetra and LTE.

The Airbus “TW1m” transmits voice and data safely thanks to end-to-end encryption and can be incorporated in supervisory systems, custom telemetry and position tracking. The “TW1m” is an extremely secure solution, especially when other communication systems are not in operation.

As the “TW1m” is part of the new electronic verification system, it contributes to the tracking and identification of registered and un-registered ships off the UAE coast. The next generation electronic verification setup consists of radars, long range cameras, E-Passport trackers, location and correlation servers as well as command and control systems. Atlas has been operating the first generation of this technology for ten years and is soon to establish its new scheme.
