From TETRA to MCX: Finland's nationwide hybrid migration journey | Theatre A

Finland's Virve 2 is the world's first operational nationwide TETRA-to-broadband hybrid network, setting a global precedent for public safety communications. This mandatory hybrid phase ensures a controlled, seamless transition toward a fully 3GPP-compliant Mission-Critical (MCX) service.

In this joint presentation, Airbus and Erillisverkot will share the technical strategy and findings from the 2023-2026 roll-out, detailing how close collaboration with key partners built their success.

3GPP Mission Critical standardisation update | Theatre B

3GPP Rel-20 is progressing at full speed, with the Stage 3 release Freeze projected for March 2027. As stage 2 architecture work for new features nears completion, Stage 3 protocol development is rapidly ramping up. This presentation introduces the new mission-critical 5G Advanced (5GA) functionalities featured in Rel-20. Additionally, we will take a brief look into the future, exploring ongoing Mission Critical 6G studies in 3GPP, with normative work expected to begin in Rel-21.

Panel discussions: Closing the gap between standards, certification and live broadband operations | Theatre B

As broadband MCX advances via 3GPP Rel-20 and 6G studies, gaps between technology readiness, certification, and regulation still impact live deployments. This panel unites standards, certification, and operational experts to discuss bridging these gaps. The session explores where standards provide assurance, remaining cross-border interoperability challenges, and how to align certifications cycles to ensure safe migration, trust, and operational continuity.
